Andrew’s London Is Our Local

Welcome back to London is our LocAL!📍

A feature where you can get to know our team and learn more about the amazing places around the Captial.

This week, we are featuring Andrew from our Marketing Department.

Introduce yourself:

Hi, I’m Andrew, I work in the marketing department at Addison Lee.

How long have you lived in London?

I’ve lived in London all of my life, I grew up in North London, and now live further East near Woodford.

Tell us a fact about London that you think no one knows:

London is the only city to have hosted the Summer Olympics three times – the standard marathon distance which is now run (26 miles, 385 yards) was set at the 1908 games as the distance from the Lawn at Windsor Castle to the finish line in front of the Royal Box at the White City Stadium.

What is the best thing about London/best time of year?

I love that period from November into December where everyone is starting to get ready for Christmas – central London starts heaving with people having post-work drinks, the air’s a bit colder and the lights in pubs shine a bit brighter.

What are your favourite places to eat and drink?

It’s hard to say the best place to eat, because there’s so many different options in London – Oystermen by Covent Garden is definitely a favourite, as well as Wun’s Tea Room near Soho. It’s amazing in the last 20 years seeing restaurants like Dishoom, Hoppers, Bodean’s and Temper grow from one restaurant to multiple locations – it’s always interesting to think which new places will flourish in the next 10 years.

What is London’s best hidden gem?

Some of the green spaces in London are an absolute tonic – on a sunny day – Victoria Embankment gardens can be a lovely spot to escape, while Epping Forest in East London is one of my favourite places to explore.

What is the best journey in London?

Flying into City Airport is a remarkable experience – there’s something really special when you come in over the top of central London and feel like you touch the tip of the Shard out of the window. Having an Addison Lee waiting for you when you land, ready to take you home or straight out into Central London is the icing on the cake!
